KATE SAMMONS

American  Contemporary

BIOGRAPHY

B. Seoul, Korea

Kate Sammons has almost instantaneously become one of the most well-known and esteemed female artists in Contemporary Realism. Born in Seoul, Korea and adopted by a family in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, Sammons developed a love for culture, humanism and beauty early on, which manifested in her desire to capture the world around her through painting and drawing. After receiving her baccalaureate degree in painting at the University of Illinois, Urbana, she continued her academic studies at Angel Art Academy in Florence, Italy, Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia, and, finally, The Waichulis Studio in Luzerne, Pennsylvania.

Sammons’ beautifully executed and highly finished pieces are at once impressive and approachable. Infusing the vibrantly contrasting and opulent color palette and composition of Vermeer, the humanism of the lauded portraits of the Renaissance and a subtle nod to Magritte, she breathes a special and authentic freshness into her paintings. Her use of Prussian blue, whether as a focal point or a minor contrivance, is divine, and her exacting portraits achieve a certain softness through their mood, their ability to communicate the sitter’s feeling and power.

Galleries in Los Angeles, Santa Fe, Cape Cod, Denver and Scottsdale represent Kate Sammons’s work, and she has participated in museum exhibitions in the US and abroad, most notably at the National Portrait Gallery, the Butler Institute of American Art and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. Although her career has just begun, she has already acquired an impressive amount of honors from numerous organizations, including the Portrait Society of America, The Artist’s Magazine and Art Renewal Center. Kate Sammons also teaches at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art
