"Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." - Confucius

Among the many young and talented painters emerging from the New York Atelier scene is rising star, Patrick Byrnes. Preferring the figure to most other subject-matter Byrnes’ naturalistic approach celebrates everyday man. For Byrnes, beauty dwells not in the idealized nor in the exaggerated but within the quiet irregularities and imperfections of humanity. When approaching the occasional still life he chooses subject matter with the artistic sensibilities of a portraitist, delighting in the tonal rhythms of natures most beautiful and ever-changing adornment — the flower: “I love painting flowers because they are very much like faces- they're alive, moving, and challenging for their subtle shifts of hue and value.” Byrnes keeps faith with the Old Masters, revealing a strict and careful depiction of reality in all his subject-matter, determined to reveal the beauty, dignity and grace of all that inspires him.
Byrnes received his bachelor’s degree in Art History and English at the University of Saint Andrews in 2006. Upon completing his undergraduate degree, Byrnes shifted his focus of study to fine art. Thus, he began his classical training at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and spent a year studying at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy. In 2010, Byrnes moved to New York City to further his technique by studying under Jacob Collins at the Grand Central Atelier.
Patrick Byrnes is represented in galleries in Massachusetts and New York and has participated in numerous group shows across the United States. He currently maintains his professional studio in New York and teaches cast drawing and portrait painting at Grand Central Atelier in Long Island City.
