Born 1969 in Milan, Italy; Currently lives in Milan.

Gianluca Corona graduated from the local Academia di Belle Arti di Brera in 1991. From ‘94 to ’96 he trained as an apprentice in the studio of Mario Donizetti in Bergamo. Shortly after his studies with Donizetti he began his professional career and began painting full time establishing himself as a leading figure of the young Italian representational art movement

His work offers a contemporary rereading of the still life and portrait genres, inspired by the great masters of the XVI and XVII centuries. Special attention is devoted to using traditional materials and techniques. I pose the subjects I love illuminating them in a precise and particular way to render as best I can the very nature of the objects. I use bread, cheese, fruits and vegetables for the variety they offer with respect to the forms and colors. What is important to me is to make people perceive the surface of these objects, how the light hits them, their smoothness, fragrance and their flavor. The hope is that the object is physically perceived from the canvas not as if it were a photograph rather beyond. It is a tactile realism, where you can perceive something visceral, hot and human which hyper-realism lacks of: photography will never give you what reality offers you.

He has held several exhibitions in Italy and abroad and his works are present in public and private collections. He lives and works in Milan.
