Spencer Simmons was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. 

Spencer was brought up around painting. His grandmother, an equestrian and western painter, took him into the studio at a very young age. His father, a house painter, showed him the importance of good materials and craftsmanship. Simmons graduated from Arizona Stae University with a degree in Fine Arts in 2015 and continued his art education at the Scottsdale Artists School and The Russian Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy. Since the completion of his formal studies he has faithfully been devoted to painting in a traditional manner in oil and watercolor. 

Trained initially as a studio painter capturing the likeness of a human being or the beauty of an object has always been central to his creative impulse. Recently, however, his curiosity has led him outdoors where he enjoys the unique challenges of capturing the essence of the landscape. He now spends most of his time painting en plein air.
